REVIEW FILM ”SURAT DARI PRAHA”

Unlike other films in general, Surat dari Praha raises a love drama wrapped in history and political polemic in Indonesia in 1965. Jaya is a student at a service bond in Prague who cannot return to Indonesia for quite a long time because of her idealism against the New Order government.

This decision makes Jaya lose her citizenship, family togetherness, and her true love, Sulastri. For decades he lived with courage and solitude. Even so, Jaya learns many things such as forgiving, letting go and making peace with the past.

Nowadays, historical themed films may have started to mushroom. However, in general, these films only depict important figures in the history of independence, such as heroes. The letter from Prague comes with a different nuance, namely presenting stories from people who were once the impact of the history of the New Order. Even though the theme raised is quite sensitive, Angga as the director is sure that the audience needs a different nuance of the story and is a little touchy-feely.

Not only acting, the two main players, Julie Estelle and Tio Pakusadewo also sing in this film. They performed songs by Glenn Fredly. With great simplicity, the two of them touched the hearts of the audience with their golden voices and the tinkling of the musical instruments used. Julie plays the piano and Tio plays the harmonica. Their action is tucked into quite romantic scenes in the film.

When it comes to acting, both Tio and Julie are no longer in doubt. Both of them succeeded in bringing the characters they played so well. Two handsome actors, Chicco Jerikho and Rio Dewanto, are present as sweeteners in this story. As well as Widyawati who is the key to all the polemics in the film Surat dari Prague.

Interestingly, this film presents a quite unexpected ending. The ending makes the audience 'unconscious' that the film has ended. But there, the audience can immediately know the message that this film wants to convey, such as sincerity, acceptance and the meaning of true love. The film Surat dari Prague has been released in Indonesian cinemas since January 28, 2016.
